Multi-award winning singer songwriter, guitar teacher and author, Cal Williams Jr, presents a season of interactive guitar workshops based upon his internationally acclaimed guitar books, The Guitar Toolbox series, distributed by Hal Leonard (Aus and NZ).
Workshop #1-Folk Guitar concentrates on the moveable Folk major and Folk minor scales and the primary 1,4,5 chords and their role in creating the 12 Bar Folk major and minor progressions. This workshop finishes with an instant Jam session to put into context the new learned guitar skills. Workshop #2-Blues Guitar focuses on the moveable Blues scale and the 1,4,5 and the 12 Bar Blues. This workshop ends with an Instant Jam session with the other workshop students. Workshop #3-Slide Guitar presents an introduction to standard and open tuned slide technique. Students are taught the basic principles of holding a slide, hand position and correct intonation. Workshop students are then paired off to practice jamming with other players using the slide guitar techniques they have learned. BYO Slide. Workshop #4-Open Tunings introduces the three main tunings Open G, Open D and DADGAD in Folk and Blues. Students are taught the scales and perfect chords relevant to each tuning and are paired off to jam these new guitar skills. Cal will also teach a brief history of Alternate Tunings. Workshop #5-Songwriting details the use of perfect chords for creating original songs. The main focus is to expand the chord vocabulary to include all seven perfect chords as well as modulation and chord substitution. Workshop #6-Instant Jam is a free workshop for all ticket holders to meet other guitarists and to practice the skills they have learnt in the other sessions in a group context. This workshop will be great for all players interested in forming a band and will also provide the opportunity for a meet-and-greet with other teachers from The Cal Williams Jr Guitar School. Each ticket purchased includes a free mini-book of the workshop you have attended that is a sample version of the corresponding Guitar Toolbox book available from AMPD and Geetar.com. The book also comes with a free backing track CD to practice your jamming skills. Each attendee of The Guitar Toolbox guitar workshop will also gain free entry into the Instant Jam session where you can meet other players and use your new guitar skills in an all-in group jam. The Guitar Toolbox was a sell-out show at the 2010 Adelaide Festival Fringe and was originally held at the beautiful Café Komodo in Prospect. Workshop attendees loved the sessions and were all happily jamming at the end of the show.
