My name is Merrill Pungarte Bray, an Indigenous Artist of the Eastern and Northern Aranda group from Alice Springs.
I have been painting since the age of 12 and my vision is to create new dimensions of space using colour to capture as much movement within my pieces as possible through the process of manipulating the use of colour and texture.
The themes I love working with are DNA (double helix), The Four Seasons, and Macro (universal themes) and Micro (Under the Microscope).
The Macro works depict: universes and galaxies filled with Nebula gases and stars.
The Micro works depict: the essence of spirit, string theory vibrations, atoms, molecules, DNA and passages through time and the void, where the dreaming takes place through thoughts of intentions that bring into existence everything that is.
My Great Grandmother A'ra Ka, which means SUN, is the Sun Dreaming Woman from the Northern Aranda side of Alice Springs at Illbarlinja. Like her Mother and Grandmother before her, A'ra Ka belongs to the Yipirinya Dreaming.
It is my great privilege to paint my Great Grandmother A’raka’s Dreaming: this is the Sun.
